DC Scope stores and analyses millions of data of your infrastructure and presents them in an ergonomic and intuitive interface. Here are some tips in order to better understand and use the solution.

Modules

DC Scope is composed of 13 modules accessible from the menu on the left of the screen. Each module is designed to provide the right information in an intuitive and easy way. The Cloud Pricing is an additional module that is not included in the standard version of DC Scope.

Dashboard: General overview of your infrastructure.

DC Views: Graphical organization of your infrastructure.

Cluster Overview: Summarized view of the distribution of servers and resources on the cluster.

Server Overview: Hardware characteristics of the servers.

VM Overview: Overview and inventory of VM's.

Storage Overview: General view of the datastore.

Reporting: Easily generate reports of your infrastructure.

Recommendation: Find out different optimization measures.

Graph On Demand: Graphical overview of different elements.

Energy Analysis: Electrical consumption of servers.

Capacity Planning: Simulation and prediction tool.

Troubleshooting: Identification and diagnostic issues in VM's.

KPI: Key performance indicators

Cloud Pricing: analysis, comparison of internal costs with the public cloud.

Observe your infrastructure in a comprehensive and detailed way

DC Scope allows to zoom in the different graphics at any time by clicking on them, this will provide detailed information presented in an easier way to understand. Additionally, all the tables presented in the solution are exportable by clicking the button with the symbol

Filters and views

DC Scope can analyze the status of all your infrastructure or only a delimited part of it. Furthermore, it is possible to define filters by elements (clusters, grouping of VM belonging to the same application, folders, tags), and/or by specific periods of time.

Filter Creation

Filters are composed by a Selection View and a Period View. To create a filter, you must first define the views of elements and period you want to include in the filter. The menu Filter & View in the top of the screen will allow you to create the views and filters.

Selection View

Filter & View and then Selection View shows the selection views you have created. The frame on the right shows the distribution of the datacenter, clusters servers and VMs in your infrastructure. The structure is predefined as: VM, Clusters, Servers or Datacenter. An according to particular function groups as Folder view Tag view Resource pool view. The Create View button in the left frame allows you to create and save Selection Views. To create a new view, click on the Create View button and follow the wizard. Once created, the view will be available in the Available Selection Views in the left frame.

Period View

Clicking on the menu Filter & View and then Period View button shows the period views you have created. Some predefined Period Views are already included. The Create View button in the left frame allows you to create and save Period Views. To create a new view, click on the Create View button and follow the wizard. Once created, the view will be available in the Available Period Views in the left frame.

Filter Management

Once the Selection View and Period View are created, you can start creating your filter. Clicking on the menu Filter & View and then on the Filter Management shows the detail of the filters created. By default, a filter All is created and includes the information DC Scope has gathered since its installation and from all the elements in the infrastructure. The Create New Filter button in the top left of the windows allows you to create filters. To create a new filter, click on the Create New Filter button and follow the wizard. The wizard will guide you through the creation process and will ask you to choose the Views to include in the filter. Once created, the filter will be available in the list as well as the creation date.

Filter Activation

The filters are activated via the selection filter button Your Filter where you will find the list of the filters you have created.

Viewing periods and selected items

From all the different modules, the views selected (period and selection) can be displayed by clicking on the three wheels button on the right side of the screen. Two tables summarizing the period view and selection view in use will be displayed. A new click on the wheels makes the tables disappear.

Automatic filtering

DC Scope allows to create filters and automatically track any item in your infrastructure. For example, if a server is selected when creating the filter, any VM created on that server will automatically be added to the filter. On the other hand, if only some VMs of a server are selected (but not all) when creating the filter, then new VMs running on this server will not be added to the filter. This notion of automatic filter is applicable for servers, clusters and datacenter.
