Dependencies viewer

General view

The Dependency viewer focuses on network exchanges between VMs. Thus, only the virtual machines and the exchanges between them are visible. The lines are bidirectional: thus a line between two VMs vm1 and vm2 will bring together the flows from both directions, i.e. the flows from vm1 à vm2 and the flow of vm2 à vm1. Thus, this visualization allows for a better visual understanding of the main inter-vms flows.

In addition, by clicking on the "Flows" tab, the visualisation of dependencies in the form of flows will be displayed in a table, which can be exported to CSV.

Focus on certain VMs

The view dependency viewer allows a focus on a subset of the VMs to be set up. To add or remove a VM from the focus, there are two possibilities: - from the viewer: click on the corresponding circle - from the search tab: click on the pushpin icon to the right of the title block of a VM

The semantics of the focus are as follows:

  • The resources in the focus are displayed in orange.
  • Resources that are not part of the focus, but are directly linked to at least one resource in the focus, are displayed in grey.
  • Links between resources are displayed as lines.
  • If a link relates to at least one resource in the focus, then it is displayed in orange
  • If a link is only to resources that are not part of the focus, then it is displayed in grey

The following screenshot gives an example of a view where a focus has been set up:

Selection of items to be displayed

Finally, it is possible to filter and select resources using the options provided by the "Map data settings" panel.

Selection of the date to be displayed

By default, the data used to generate the visualisation is that of the current day.

It is possible to use data from another time. To do this, you need to unfold the Temporal settings, a heatmap will appear. So in the image below, you can see that the current day is circled in red, which means that it is used for visualisation.

By clicking on a time square, the corresponding time is selected as the date to be displayed.

Clicking again on an already selected time slot switches the selection to the whole day of which the time slot is part the time slot.

Details of the flows displayed in the visualisation

It is possible to display the details of the flows that have been used to calculate the visualisation. To access it, click on the Flow as shown in the following screenshot:

The details of the flows appear in the form of a table, where each row represents a flow with a source and a destination. By clicking on the icon on the far left of a stream, it is possible to see details of the communication ports used for the stream.

Finally, to the right of a stream there are several buttons that allow access to other DC Netscope components with the source and destination of the stream as a preset in the focus:
